Job Brief
rnHAEMATOLOGIST will be concerned with the study of blood, blood-forming tissues and blood-related disorders.
rnJob Duties/Responsibilities
rn
rnProducing quantitative data in the form of reports and providing key information to medical staff about a patient’s condition;
rnAssisting colleagues in the interpretation of test results;
rnReviewing initial data that reveals, for example, white or red blood cell abnormalities;
rnMaking decisions on further haematological analysis;
rnReceiving and preparing blood samples for analysis;
rnAnalysing blood samples using computer-aided and manual techniques;
rnSelecting appropriate techniques for different types of haematological analysis;
rnMaintaining accurate and detailed records.
rnLiaising with other medical professionals to discuss patient treatment plans;
rnCross-matching blood for use in transfusions;
rnInvestigating the biochemistry of blood clotting
